About WatchToText

WatchToText turns a video link into text. You paste a YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram link and get the transcript as text. It is free and there is no sign-up. For YouTube, the tool reads the captions that are already on the video. It does not invent a transcript for a video that has no captions. If a video has no captions, it cannot be read from a link.

YouTube links can be a normal watch URL, a youtu.be short link, a Shorts link, or a live link. Paste the link, and WatchToText reads the captions already attached to that video. You can copy the transcript, or you can download it as TXT, SRT, or VTT. TXT is plain text when you want to read or quote. SRT and VTT keep caption timing when you want a subtitle file you can drop into an editor. TikTok links and Instagram links work too, with the same idea: paste the link and get text back, without creating an account.

This is useful when the words in a video matter more than watching it again. A writer can pull a quote. A student can keep the spoken steps as text. A researcher can search a caption track instead of scrubbing. A subtitle editor can start from the SRT or VTT that was already on the YouTube video. A note-taker can copy the transcript into a document. None of that requires a WatchToText account. The page is free, and you do not sign up to paste a link or download TXT, SRT, or VTT.

The limit is important and it is part of how the tool works. WatchToText reads captions that already exist. On YouTube it reads the captions already on the video, whether the link is a watch page, a youtu.be link, a Short, or a live video. Videos without captions cannot be read from a link. The tool is not a promise that every clip on the internet has words waiting. If the captions are there, you get the transcript as text and you can copy it or download TXT, SRT, or VTT. If they are not there, a link is not enough.

TikTok and Instagram are included because a lot of short video now lives on those apps, and people still want the words. Paste the link the same way you paste a YouTube link. There is still no sign-up. The result is text you can copy. YouTube remains the path where the caption formats are called out explicitly: copy the transcript or download TXT, SRT, or VTT from the captions already on the video.

A typical pass is short. Copy the link from the video page. Paste it into WatchToText. Read the transcript that comes back. Copy the text if you only need it in the clipboard, or download TXT when you want a file, or download SRT or VTT when timing matters. Then you leave. There is no account to manage and no paid gate on that flow. Free, no sign-up.

Use it for a YouTube watch link, a youtu.be link, a Shorts link, or a live link when that video already has captions. Use it for a TikTok link or an Instagram link when you want the transcript as text from the link. Do not expect a reading from a link when the video has no captions. That boundary is the product, not a footnote. WatchToText turns a video link into text by reading captions that are already there, and it gives you the transcript to copy or to download as TXT, SRT, or VTT.

The page stays small on purpose. It does not ask you to upload a file for this link flow, and it does not ask you to create a login before you can copy the words. Paste a YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram link and get the transcript as text. For YouTube, the captions already on the video are what get read, including watch links, youtu.be links, Shorts, and live links. Download TXT, SRT, or VTT, or just copy. Free, no sign-up. Videos without captions cannot be read from a link.

If you are collecting quotes, start from the transcript and copy the lines you need. If you are repurposing a captioned YouTube video into subtitles, download SRT or VTT. If you only need something you can search later, download TXT. Each of those is the same transcript, in a different file. The source is the captions already on the video, not a new recording and not a guess about a silent clip. When the captions are missing, stop: a link alone cannot be read.

WatchToText is a side project for one job. Paste the link. Get the text. Copy it or save TXT, SRT, or VTT. No sign-up. No charge. And no transcript from a link when the video has no captions.
