## About CitedIndex

CitedIndex is the neutral index of AI-visibility and GEO tools: the products that track whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews cite your brand when someone asks a question in your category.

Search is increasingly answered rather than listed, and that changes what "being findable" means. A page can rank perfectly well in classic blue links and still never appear inside an AI answer, because the assistant summarises a handful of sources and names only some of them. A new category of tooling has grown up around that problem, usually filed under AI visibility monitoring or generative engine optimisation. CitedIndex exists because that category arrived faster than anyone could keep track of, and because most lists of these tools are affiliate pages wearing the costume of a directory.

The index currently holds 102 published tools across four categories: AI visibility monitoring, AI rank tracking, GEO and content optimization, and citation services. It has been online since July 2026.

The editorial premise is deliberately narrow: fewer entries, each researched from primary sources and dated. Every listing is built from the vendor's own material — their product pages, pricing page, documentation and changelog — rather than from press coverage or a competitor's comparison table. Each entry carries the date it was last checked, so you can see how fresh the information is instead of guessing. When we cannot verify something, the listing says so rather than filling the gap with a plausible number. That is the whole discipline, and it is the reason there are 102 tools in the index rather than a thousand.

What you can do with it: browse the four categories, look up a specific tool and see what it actually does, what it costs, and when that was last confirmed, and compare a shortlist without wading through affiliate copy. It is meant to be the boring, checkable reference you consult before a trial or a purchase decision — not a leaderboard and noing we sell.

Who it is for: marketing and SEO teams who have noticed their brand missing from AI answers, founders trying to work out whether this tooling category is worth a budget line yet, and anyone evaluating vendors in a space where the marketing outpaces the product.

How it is built: Next.js 16, React 19 and TypeScript on Vercel, with Prisma 7 over PostgreSQL (Neon), Tailwind CSS 4 and Better Auth. It is built and maintained by Matfy, a one-person team in the Netherlands, founded in 2026. CitedIndex is not open source.

Pricing: being listed in the index is free forever. There is a single optional one-time upgrade of $29 that turns a listing's outbound link into a do-follow one. Nothing else is charged, and paying does not buy a better position or a kinder write-up — the research and the dating are identical either way.
